Benzoin resin is derived from the bark of the Styrax benzoin tree, which is native to the forests of Sumatra, Indonesia. The resin is collected by making incisions in the tree’s bark, allowing the sap to seep out and harden over time. Sumatra benzoin's rich, sweet, and balsamic fragrance has been valued for centuries in traditional medicine, religious ceremonies, and perfumery for its soothing and exotic scent.
