This multi metal bowl is approximately 13.0 inches in diameter and 5.5 inches deep with a double etched Buddha and mantra design on the outside and double vajra (vishvavajra) design on the inner bowl. Please note that the tone of each bowl is more of a harmonic and varies.
These multi metal Tibetan Singing Bowl predate the Chinese occupation of Tibet and many of them have been dated back hundreds of years. We pick these bowls for their quality, rather than for their age, and only choose remarkable handmade bowls for our shop.
Each bowl has its own unique tone as well as antique physical characteristics and each bowl comes with a soft wood and suede striker.
Metallurgical analysis varies in the composition of metals used to make singing bowls. One analysis from Concordia University in Quebec is that many bowls are an eight metal alloy of copper and tin with traces of iron, lead, zinc, gold, silver and mercury.
According to Tibetan oral tradition, the existence of singing bowls dates back to the time of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni (560 - 480 B.C.). The tradition was brought from India to Tibet, along with the teachings of the Buddha in the 8th century A.D. Singing bowls produce sounds which invoke a deep state of relaxation which can naturally assist one in entering into meditation. They are a classic aid to meditation, and can be found in many meditation centres, in temples, monasteries and homes throughout the world.
